Getting into the spirit of Christmas

Sienna got out her little piano tonight and wanted to play a tune. I found the little music sheet recently which had numbers on it so you hit the 5 key or the 7 key. No on one in this household can read sheet music so the numbers are very handly indeed. Anyway she kept asking me for my reading glasses because the numbers were so small and I explained to her that they wouldn't help her but she kept insisting so I looked at the sheet and boy were those numbers tiny. I could hardly read them myself even with my glasses on. I ended up writing them down on a paper of A4 paper so she could play the tune. Just because the song was "Happy Birthday" doesn't mean anything as we still did it around the Christmas tree. James got in on the act as well and wanted to have a go.

Trimming the Tree

One of our traditions is for Aunty Lisa to come over and help put up our Christmas Tree and yesterday afternoon it started off like the normal tradition where the kids get into the boxes and start fighting or crying. Somehow "peace on earth" is not something that is at the fore front of their minds. They eventually calmed down and we were able to get started on decorating the tree. I bought the Christmas tree in December 2008 and I still love seeing it all pretty and sparkly. After a little while the kids got bored and went off to play so Lisa and I ended up finishing the tree off together.

First Christmas Lights

I am doing my December Daily again this year documenting the 25 days of December leading up to Christmas. It's designed and run by the wonderful Ali Edwards. We had a big day today putting up our Christmas Tree at home with Aunty Lisa and then tonight I took the kids to our first Christmas Lights at Tim's place (our landscaper - yes I have a landscaper who has done work for me over the years). Tim has a large place and decorates with lots of kid friendly lights and they even have a sausage sizzle going which tonight was our dinner since I hadn't been to the shops today. Tim is the one with the red tshirt and santa hat standing in the doorway of the photos with the fake snow. It will never snow in Brisbane so the kids are happy to settle for this fake stuff which looks great. It was an exhausting and exciting day and I'm looking forward to putting my December Daily together once my kit arrives from America.

We made it!!!!

Today was the last day of school for 2011 and I'm very proud of both of my kids. James finished up Grade 2 and Sienna finished her first year of schooling in Prep. I can't believe it's done, it's finished and all over for another year. Now 8 weeks of school holidays before gearing up for Grade 3 and Grade 1. Congratulations kids, I love you and I'm so proud of you both.

Out of Africa Circus

Last Saturday afternoon Aunty Lisa, the kids and I went to the Circus. I envisage a circus comes with lots of animals however these days it's not the case. This circus was made up of very fit African aerobic dancers, a clown, 3 tiny ponies, a big hairy gorilla (definitely not real), a little girl with a lot of hula hoops and 3 Asian girls doing balancing acts. It was on at a local park down the road and I had no idea what to expect. By the way the little girl with the hula hoops has been on Oprah as per some of the photos I saw displayed.

We actually had a really fun time and the aerobic guys were incredible doing somersaults, back flips in the air, climbing poles etc. doing the limbo which was on fire. The kids took a lot of this in because as soon as we came home Sienna was climbing up the pole in the outdoor entertainment area. It was so funny, we were inside and she was calling out "Granny look at me" and here she is at the top of the pole like a monkey with her hand out like "ta da". We had lots of fun and I was pleased we made the effort to go.
