Cartoon Camp

James and Sienna brought home a brochure from school a few weeks ago for a "Cartoon Camp" during the school holidays. Normally I have a quick look and throw it away however they both were very keen and held onto those brochures like they were gold. I picked one day out for them and they got to draw Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry, Garfield etc. so I thought today would be suitable for both their ages. I dropped them off at the local school at 9.30 am and picked them up at 3.30 pm. They had a good day and did very well at learning to draw cartoon characters. Here's a couple of photos of them at the end of the day.

Endless amount of fun

Cocoa and Fluffy have been getting a lot of attention from James and Sienna these holidays and they have been making little cubby houses for them in the backyard out of cardboard and plastic lids. They are very tolerant and good natured chickens. Here's today's activity of making them a cubby house near where they like to rub themselves in the dirt. After a while the kids went into the chicken coop to pretend they were chickens. All I know it was a good place for them but they made more noise than the real chickens.

Strawberry Picking

For the past 2 years my friends have taken their kids to Rolin Strawberry Farm about 45 mins away on the way to the North Coast. This year I was determined to make it and the "pick your own" only opened to the public last Saturday so we got in early. I was looking forward to some beautiful photo opportunities and took along my expodisc (for perfect white balance) and we arrived and there weren't too many people in the fields so photos would be just us and I started to take my first photo and the camera was flashing inside "no CF Card"........oops....it was still in the computer from loading my photos last night. I couldn't believe it but luckily Poppa Waz had his Nikon with him so we took a few photos on his camera and then I uploaded them to my computer when we got home.

I have only done that once before but it didn't matter as I wasn't really in the picture mood taking on that day but today I was wanting to take some Karen Russell (KR to my friends) shots..... The Nikon does everything back to front from Canon so when you are zooming in on one camera, on the other it's zooming out so it was all very hilarious. Here are some photos of our strawberry picking adventure and they were absolutely delicious and huge fresh strawberries.

We dropped into Bribie Island after the Strawberry Farm and had fish and chips for lunch, the kids had a play on the playground, threw the Frisbee and had a little walk on the beach. Photos of the beach will be posted tomorrow as there are lots from the strawberry farm to post today.

Getting our veggie garden ready

More hands make light work and this afternoon Poppa Waz and James put together the Bunnings veggie boxes and then we dug through the pile of bark/dirt to sift out the weeds and then we layered our veggie boxes weed mat, lucerne, manure, bark/dirt etc. and topped them off with some compost material at the top. I need to get a couple of bags to top them up but for now it was a great effort. When I say we, I mean Nanny, Pop, James and Sienna and I took quite a few photos. I'm excited that they are nearly ready and we can start planting and attending to our organic garden. I am a little concerned about possums around here as I have trees in the back and we are surrounded by bush but we'll have to see how we go.

The chicken and the egg

This morning when I was having a shower James came racing into the bathroom all excited to tell me that there was an animal holding an egg in the kitchen. He had the biggest grin on his face and I said, umm... would that be a Zoob animal by any chance! Sure enough he had made a chicken holding an egg. This is going to be today's photo of the day.

What we did today

We put bench seats together, the kids swept the shelving, we put shelving together, Sienna got bitten by an ant and had to lay down on the new bench seat with some ice on her foot, James made Zoob animals "man walking his dog", a frog and a Zoob dactal (can't spell that one). Very productive and exhausting day.

Nanny & Pop are in town

I picked up Nanny & Pop from the airport yesterday and the kids were so excited at school pick up to see their grandparents after 9 months. It was all up in the air about whether they would actually arrive or not because of the volcanic ash cloud however luckily their travel wasn't affected.

What my babies are doing right now

Here are my beautiful children whom I love very much. Scooby Doo and Duckie are the bedtime friends of choice at the moment (James 7 and Sienna 5). How adorable are they!
