December Daily 2010

My beautiful December Daily album is 99% finished, just need to do the 1st introduction page and it's a wrap. I'm thrilled to pieces with it, the photos, the stories, the memories and the fact that it's digital and printed from home. The book is the 8x8 and when I previously wrote about it some months back I ended up not using the little envelopes with the numbers on for the dates as it didn't end up working as I would miss out on too much of the page and lose photos.
I would love to finish off 2009 December Daily before I start the 2011 December Daily. That's probably achievable if I push the timeline to somewhere between July and October. It's a shame to leave the project half finished. I like what I did for 2010 much better and easier to manage in a very busy month of the year. I will definitely be participating in Ali Edwards December Daily project at the end of the year again.

Australia Day BBQ

It was a beautiful 31 degrees and sunny today for Australia Day in Brisbane. I had the family over for a swim and a sausage, not to mention pavlova, lamingtons and Anzac biscuits. I think the pictures speak for themselves. It was a great day and we all got into the spirit of it all.

1st Day of School

Well the day finally arrived for them to go to school and Sienna was up at 5.30pm waking me up and telling me to get dressed because she wanted to go to school. She could not have been more excited. James was keen to catch up with his new class mates and also his old ones. Each year they move all the kids around which has its pro's and con's.
James was at school for the whole day until 3pm however the little preps were only there until 12.30 so by the time the parents had a coffee, went off to do their grocery shopping it was almost time to pick her up again. She had a great day and was so exhausted that she fell asleep in the car at 2.30pm when we went back to pick James up. Being a very hot sunny day both of them drank their entire water bottles so as soon as we got home we jumped in the pool to cool off. Here's my two amazing school kids on their first day of school for 2011. James is in grade 2 and little Miss Sienna is in prep.

Getting ready for school

There was lots of this today....washing lots of blue things. Then lots of blue and yellow shirts. The kids are excited to be going back. Sienna can't wait until Tuesday because she said school is going to be awesome and James will catch up with his school friends again. I like that we will be getting back into a routine however I have enjoyed making lunches at lunch time and not 7am in the morning but the party is over and the school routines are just about to begin.

Sienna

James has gone off on a play date with a friend and Sienna was given a little party bag which she was extremely excited about. New sunglasses, lollies and bubbles...what more could a girl want on a Friday. We are having a quiet day at home together making anzac biscuits for school lunch boxes.

Photo of the Day

This is today's "photo of the day" which I think is the cutest little thing. We (James, Sienna and myself) are responsible for keeping this little guy alive while our good friends were on holidays. We think his name is "grass head" however my good friend and I have nicknamed him Wilson after the basket ball and Tom Hanks love affair in Castaway, a good likeness don't you think?

Thankfully Wilson aka Grasshead is still alive and between the 3 of us we did a pretty good job at keeping the water topped up in the terracotta pot and the little rope at the bottom of his head sits in the water and sucks it up that way to keep his beautiful green hair alive. Again, a pretty clever idea when you think about it. Anyway we have all really enjoyed babysitting Wilson/Grasshead and must return him to his rightful owners over the weekend. I think Wilson/Grasshead will love being a part of Project 365 for 2011 and will look forward to his permanent place on the wall canvas at the end of the year.

Getting ready for school

Last week we went along to the specialist children's shoe store to get new school shoes fitted. Both James and Sienna needed half size fittings and they specialize in them at Tammy's at Chermside. When you arrive you take a number like in Coles and wait your turn as there are lots of mum's doing the same thing. We only had to wait about 10 minutes before it was our turn and we were fixed up with a size 13.5 shoe for James and a size 12.5 for Sienna. Sienna was interested in making funny faces in the mirror while James was being attended to. I can't believe I will have both my children at school next week. Where did the time go!

Feeding the ducks

About 6 months ago my good friend Karin (who did Project 365 in 2009 with me) had taken James and I to a little creek in the suburbs to feed the ducks. Sienna was at kindy and I think James had a pupil free day at school. Anyway as the holidays are winding down I'm thinking about doing little activities for the kids which are fun and inexpensive so I decided we would go for a little 15 minute drive to feed the ducks. We took some old bread rolls out of the freezer and cut them into little pieces and I gave the kids a little brown bag of bread each to feed the ducks. We did feed the ducks along with lizards and heaps of turtles. This creek is in the middle of suburbia and we were just so thrilled to see so much wild life there. You can see our beautiful muddy flood water in these pictures but I'm sure the turtles and ducks love it. Here's a few photos of our little visit to feed the ducks...well heaps of photos in fact I took 100 of them, gotta love the age of digital don't you.
