Falling Asleep - Part 1

One thing that is so cute when you go to put the kids in bed and they are already asleep on the couch. Last night when I went to put Sienna to bed I found her like this, fast asleep with a beanie on and she looked soooo cute. Naturally I had to race downstairs to get the camera, change the white balance setting and position myself to take the photos while holding it still as I do not use flash. Kids look so adorable when they are asleep and after I took about 6 photos she proceeded to roll over and instead of towards the cushions she rolled off onto the floor at which point I had to take care to put my other baby down carefully (my Canon 40D camera) and pick Sienna up and take her to bed. At least she rolled onto carpet so it wasn't that bad but was pleased I took the photos in the nick of time!!!

  2. Nicole, on the 40D go to the menu where it says White Balance (it should be set to AWB which is Auto White Balance) Press the set button (in the middle of the dial at the back) and a number of pictures will come up. Change from AWB to say tungsten or fluorescent depending upon your light source and give it a go. I did have to adjust slightly in photoshop (I'm shooting in RAW format). MAKE SURE you change the setting back to AWB afterwards as it does not go back by itself. All your next shots will be terrible so a word of warning (from experience). Kathy

  4. Di, I'm an AV (aperature priority girl) unless it is fast moving). I have read a lot lately on people saying that unless you shoot in manual mode you are not a real photographer. Not true. If you are using the picture modes (ie flower, portrait, mountain etc.) maybe get off those and learn how to use AV and TV (or S in some cameras). I'm shooting in RAW (thanks to Leanne telling me what to do with my computer to do that) but it is very time consuming particularly if you shoot 200 photos of an event, holiday etc....you sit at that computer for hours. Still baby steps, put one foot in front of the next.
